Barter relished “Amazing” Albert Park track experience

By Timothy Neal

Hugh Barter had his first ever F3 session on home soil, and the Aussie ace was blown away by his maiden experience on the Albert Park track.

It’s his first time racing outside of karting on Aussie soil, and after blowing away the competition in the Spanish and French F4 in 2022, his first experience on the streets of Albert Park ended with a P8 in Practice 1, and it left him begging for more.

“The track was amazing…it was just amazing,” a beaming Barter told AUTO ACTION in the busy surrounds of the Campos F3 garage.

“Just going through Turn 8 with the flat out right and then the flat out left before you go into 9, everything comes at you so fast and you can see the crowd. I could really feel the atmosphere.

“When you’re on a cool lap and you’re not pushing you can have a bit of a look around…it’s just crazy.”

Barter showed good pace in his Albert Park debut this morning ahead of the afternoon qualifying session

With the category only running hard compound Pirelli’s this weekend, Barter gave an insight into the difference from Bahrain with everyone coming to a new track.

“To be fair, like at Bahrain for example, it was just get out, push, pull, and repeat etc…then finish the run, but no one really knows the track here and it was quite cold, so everyone was just doing consecutive pushes in a row.

“Everyone was trying for as much track time as possible, it’s what matters most here, and I feel I could’ve maximised it a little more.

“Both Pepe (Marti) and I feel really good with the car, but there’s definitely things to improve on. But the first sector is the major one for me in getting that perfect qualifying lap. I got traffic quite a few laps in a row there, but what can you do, it’s part of the game and you move forward.”

The Qualifying session for the F3 comes directly after the first Formula 1 free-practice at 14:00 AEDT.
