Sonic launches three-strong attack on Carrera Cup title

Sonic Motor Racing Services will field a three-strong line up in the 2023 Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Championship.
With Aaron Love racing Super2 after collecting 11 wins and falling agonisingly short of championship success in 2022, Sonic Motor Racing Services was forced to do a slight reshuffle of its driver line-up with Angelo Mouzouris its new leader.
Also Racing the familiar Bob Jane T-Marts Porsches will be Simon Fallon and Rodney Jane.
Mouzouris and Fallon will be the two drivers leading a Pro-class attack on the title, while Jane is driving in the Pro-Am division.
The team has a proud history with David Reynolds (2007), Nick Foster (2016) and Jordan Love (2019) all tasting ultimate success in Carrera Cup and the latest trio will drive the next chapter.
Mouzouris replaces Love after making his Carrera Cup debut last year, plus completing a season in Super2 with MW Motorsport where he finished 16th with top five finishes at Perth and Sandown the highlights.
His maiden Carrara Cup started strong with a P4 at the season opener in Albert Park, but three straight DNF’s on the Gold Coast relegated him to P16 in the standings.
The former Australian Formula Ford champion hopes to take the next step in Bob Jane T-Marts colours and is determined to show some speed at his new home.
“It’s cool to race the Bob Jane T-Marts car and I really can’t wait too get started and show the speed that we have,” said Mouzouris.
“We had a tough season in Carrera Cup last year, but I feel much better and more prepared this time around. I have the motivation to do it and I have regained that fire in my belly to have a decent crack.
“We’ve had a few test days to build on some elements. The tests were very productive and I’m confident that any weaknesses that we had has been turned into a strength.
“The Grand Prix is a great way to kick off the season. We had a pretty good first half of the weekend last year. I was running fourth on debut, but the results fell away after some incidents. We have a good base to work from and I’m excited to get out on track.”
Fallon is suiting up for his third year at Sonic and aims to continue his improvement having risen from 21st in 2021 to 12th in 2022.
The 2018 Porsche Sprint Challenge champion has high ambitions for 2023.
“I’m certainly the most prepared I’ve ever been for a Carrera Cup championship,” said Fallon.
“Going into the Grand Prix, I feel like I’m in a good place and looking forward to it.
“For this year, we want to be pushing for podiums and wins, but the approach just needs to be that we focus on our own thing and see where we end up.”
The 2023 Porsche Carrera Cup Australia season begins at the Australian Grand Prix from March 30 to April 2.
