Alex Davison to return to Carrera Cup as super sub

Alex Davison will return to the Porsche Carrera Cup Australia grid at Albert Park next week after a four-year break.
Davison will race for Scott Taylor Motorsport in a #222 GT3 Cup car at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix support event.
The 2004 Carrera Cup champion is performing substitute duties for Scott Taylor, who is recovering from an injury sustained at a recent triathlon.
Davison has not raced in the category since 2018 where he made cameo appearances at Albert Park and Phillip Island collecting three podiums. He joins David Wall as former champions on the Carrera Cup grid.
The current Dick Johnson Racing co driver said he hopes to make the most of the unexpected opportunity and replicate pervious success he has enjoyed at the Grand Prix circuit.
“I’m really looking forward to the opportunity to jump behind the wheel of the STM Porsche 992 GT3 Cup Car at Albert Park,” Davison said.

“Thanks to Scott and Rebecca Taylor for the opportunity to fill in while he is recovering.
“I’ve been fortunate to have had a lot of success at Albert Park in Carrera Cup in the past so it will be great to go there in the new car and compete in such a competitive field.
“There’s no expectations other than representing the STM squad as well as possible and enjoying the weekend.”
Davison is no stranger to Scott Taylor Motorsport having performed driver coaching duties over many years as well as representing the team at the Bathurst 12 Hour on numerous occasions.
Taylor said he elected not to drive this weekend after receiving “professional advice” to avoid the driver’s seat.
“The best approach is to ensure my injury is fully repaired and that means being responsible and practical. As much as I would love to be driving in the opening round, I am following professional advice,” Scott Taylor said.
“Alex Davison is a highly valued member of the STM team and I’m genuinely excited to see him representing STM.”
The 2023 Porsche Carrera Cup Australia season begins at Albert Park on March 30 to April 2.
