HALLETT MAKES IT TWO FROM TWO AT PREMIER SPEEDWAY

By Timothy Neal

For the second event running Brock Hallett showed himself to be the king of Premier Speedway as he took out the penultimate round of the Warrnambool Track Championship and Eureka Garages & Sheds Series.

Up against Supercars Championship contender Cameron Waters, as well as a host of speedway stars, Hallett went from strength to strength as the event unfolded.

Hallett kicked off proceedings with a 10.24s lap during qualifying, which was the quickest in his group and overall. Waters was also on the pace, clocking a 10.45s lap to be fastest in Group 1.

Locals Jamie Veal (10.47s) and Will Carroll (10.54s) were fastest in groups 3 and 4.

Heading into the heats, Waters was able to backup his qualifying form, finishing second behind Pestka. Andrew Hughes won Heat 2 while Hallett and Matthew Reed gained places, the latter still gunning for another series title.

Peter Doukas topped Heat 3 from Jamie Veal and Ash Cook, and Jett Bell saluted in Heat 4 ahead of Dane Court and Jordyn Charge.

Entering the Shootouts as the top point scorer, Hallett maintained his ascendency with a 10.55s lap.

Josh Buckingham outshone more regular campaigners to set the fastest time in both the Bronze and Silver shootout, eclipsing Jamie Veal in the Silver Shootout.

Seventeen cars battled it out in the B-Main for the six A-Main transfer spots where Jordyn Charge led home, Tate Frost, Ash Cook, Jordan Rae, Chris Solomon and Adam King.

The eighteen-car field then assembled for the A-Main with Hallett and Waters off the front row, with Veal and Buckingham row two.

However, Veal’s hope was short-lived, as he clipped fell from the front pack after an incident at Turn 2.

Waters charged to the lead, but the field was quickly brought under caution by a Jett Bell spin.

From the restart, Hallett found a way past Waters and did not concede the lead thereafter, finishing 1.5s ahead of Waters and Tate Frost, who transferred from the B-main and started fourteenth in the A-Main.

“The track was interesting tonight, I didn’t think the top would go away as much as it did in turns 3 and 4 which caught us out a little, but we had a super-fast car and focussed on running a clean consistent race,” Hallett commented in victory lane.

With plenty of points in the bag, Hallett is now second in the Warrnambool Track Championship heading into the final round on Easter Sunday. McHugh holds a six-point lead.

McHugh finished fourth, while Charge, Carroll, Doukas, Jones, Bell and Reed rounded out the top ten.
