F1 inspired car coming to Adelaide

By Thomas Miles

The Formula 1 inspired Rodin FZED will make its competitive Australian debut at the 2023 Adelaide Motorsport Festival.

The Rodin FZED originated from a near-F1-spec single seater developed by the Lotus team in 2011.

At the time Lotus was the team now known as Alpine operating from Enstone and created a Grand Prix like car for the public to drive.

One of the few Lotus T125 track cars built has returned as a Rodin FZED after New Zealand manufacturer Rodin Cars took over the project.

Rodin turned it into a FZED and thanks to a partnership with Zagame Automotive, the car will be launched in Australia at the Adelaide Motorsport Festival.

The launch will include a number of on-track appearances on the Victoria Park street circuit, coupled with a number of off-track activations.

The Rodin FZED is powered by a 3.8-litre Cosworth V8 engine, making 675bhp and 9600rpm. It is also capable of a top speed of 300 kph and can climb from Xero to 100kph in just 2.9s.

This level of power and speed allows the driver to experience a similar level of performance seen from Formula 1 cars of the 2009-2013 era.

The Rodin FZED has already turned heads in the UK and broke the unofficial lap record at Donington Park’s National Circuit previously set by the V10-powered Benetton B197, which was driven by Jean Alesi, Alexander Wurz and Gerhard Burger during the 1997 Formula 1 season, where the latter won the German Grand Prix.

The Rodin FZED will make its Australian debut at the 2023 Adelaide Motorsport Festival.

The car will be easy to spot retaining the iconic Lotus black and gold colours and will feature in the Tipo F1 category, which makes its AMF debut and runs alongside the Formula 1 and Open-Wheeler classes.

The Rodin FZED is not the only Kiwi based speed machine coming to South Australia, with Hayden Paddon’s Hyundai Kona EV Rally car also present at the event.

The Adelaide Motorsport Festival will be held from March 25-26.
