Supercars Gen3 build deadline ‘very tight’

By Auto Action

The Supercars Gen3 build is currently pushing ahead for all teams, but some parts are arriving slower than others.

In the latest issue of Auto Action, Andrew Clarke spoke with a number of Supercars team owners, who provided an update on the Gen3 progress and expressed some nerves of about making the on-track deadline.

One team owner raised concerns over the shakedown and test days, while some believed it is unlikely all 25 cars will be ready for the scheduled test days at Winton and Queensland Raceway.

However, BJR Team owner Brad Jones is a little more upbeat.

“It’s very tight because we’re still waiting on a lot of parts to be produced for the car,” Brad Jones Racing owner Brad Jones told AUTO ACTION.

“But I’m really happy with where BJR is at in terms of the parts that we have produced.

“We’ve got a build schedule we are working to, but it’s a massively big job, and we’re still waiting for a lot of stuff to be produced.”

Blanchard Racing Team has sent out pictures of its first in-house built car, and if what is shown is correct, it is the most advanced team in the country with regards to the build.

The shiny blue Mustang is conspicuously short of some elements, like a rear wing and grilles, but look relatively well finished.

Grove Racing is also pushing on, but looks to be lagging compared with BRT and NJR with little more than bare chassis on display as the crew works on the build.

“We had the chassis turn up from Pace Innovation; so, they turn up raw (and) there’s a little bit prep work that needed to be done,” said Grove Racing team principal David Cauchi.

“Then we sent them off to print (and) now they’re back here and we are starting to bolt on all the various parts.

“There’s still a lot of things being made and a lot of things being assembled behind the scenes as well, so slowly, we’ll start to see more parts going on to the car.”
