Contending Triple Eight GT finds trouble

By Timothy Neal

Prince Jefri Ibrahim has found the turn 14 concrete barrier during Qualifying for the GT World Challenge Australia at the VALO Adelaide 500.

The Triple Eight regular lost control of the rear of the #888 Mercedes AMG and hit the concrete barrier head-on, shooting off on the left before the sweeping right hander.

Ibrahim, racing with international Aussie and former Carrera Cup championship, Nick Foster, looks doubtful to get back out at this stage, as the AMG GT3 is a front engined V8 where the entirety of the damage was caused. Race 1 is at 14:05pm today, making the #888 contender even less doubtful to take part.

The Malaysian born Royal sits just 11 points off Yasser Shahin in the fight for the Pro class championship, with Shahin now having a possible hand on the 2022 trophy.

It comes after his brother, Prince Abu Bakar Ibrahim, was involved in a massive crash at the Bathurst International in the other Triple Eight Mercedes AMG, which forced the team to import a backup car from overseas in order to race at Adelaide.

Liam Talbot ended up Pole position over Shahin for Race 1, with Race 2 Qualifying to come.
