Despite the rain having abated, the safety car was prominent throughout the support races in the lead up to the Repco Bathurst 1000 on Sunday, AUTO ACTION’s Gary O’Brien reports.
PORSCHE PAYNTER DIXON CARRERA CUP AUSTRALIA
The historic 400th race for Porsches started behind the safety car and fizzled into a halt after three laps. Aaron Love had built up a two-second lead after the race started on lap two.
Title leader Harri Jones was able to get by Dylan O’Keeffe for third behind Max Vidau before teammates Jaxon Walls and Christian Pancione, along with Callum Hedge speared off in the Chase. Walls and Hedge were able to regain the track but not Pancione. The race went safety car and then red flagged.

Harri Jones is still leading the series over a fast charging Aaron Love
The order behind had David Russell fifth in front of Dale Wood, Simon Fallon, Luke Youlden, David Wall and Nick McBride. In Morris Finance Pro Am Liam Talbot showed the way ahead of Geoff Emery, Sam Shahin, Dean Cook and Rodney Jane.
TOYOTA GAZOO RACING AUSTRALIA 86 SERIES
The only category to get a proper start where Zach Bates edged out Ryan Gilroy for the lead which he was able to extend before the race finished behind the safety car after five laps.
Gilroy held second just in front of Lachlan Gibbons and Campbell Logan with Bailey Sweeny and Lachlan Bloxom next after the two ran side by side from Turn 2 to the top of the mount. Gibbons tried a move on Gilroy at the top of Mountain Straight on lap four which didn’t quite work out and he dropped to fifth. Then Bloxom crashed at Forrest Elbow which made for a safety car and an early conclusion.

Zach Bates added another victory albeit under the duress of another safety car taking the field to the chequered flag
Logan snuck into second before the cautionary while Gilroy finished fourth behind Sweeny. Despite the drama Gibbons won the series while Harrison Gray was sixth ahead of Jayden Hume, Hugo Allan, Rossi Johnson and James Wilkins.
HALTECH V8 SUPERUTES
Even though the rain had ceased, it was still a wet track and the fourth and final race started behind the safety car. It finished behind it as well.
After one lap the race went green, and Aaron Borg (Holden Colorado) led narrowly from David Sieders (Mitsubishi Triton) and Craig Dontas (Triton) until the latter had a spin at Sulman Park and hit a wall.

Borg took out the SuperUtes outright with two wins, over Sieders and Woods
Third place went to Ben Walsh ahead of his Toyota Hilux teammate Craig Woods, George Gutierrez (Colorado) and Rohan Barry (Hilux) who survived a first lap spin at Murrays Corner. They were followed by Jaiden Maggs (Triton), David Casey (Isuzu D-MAX), Ellexandra Best (Triton) and Richard Mork (Mazda BT-50).
