GARRY’S BATHURST 1000 THURSDAY SUPPORT WRAP

Predictions of heavy rain on day one of the Repco Bathurst 1000 did not eventuate, but there was some moisture around as the support categories went through their paces in preparation for races on Friday, Reports AUTO ACTION’s Garry O’Brien.

Aaron Love pulled a stunner at the end of qualifying to be almost seven tenths of a second faster than his rivals at round seven of the series. Love broke new ground with his 2 minutes 5.3525 second flyer, a first sub six for the category.

The session started in misty rain and was barely under way when it was red flagged due to Max Vidau beaching at Hell Corner. Most of the fast times came late in the interrupted session with Dylan O’Keeffe second ahead of Dale Wood and points leader Harri Jones who crashed in the previous practice session.

Christian Pancione was sixth in front of Jaxon Walls, Simon Fallon and David Russell who was the early pacesetter. In Pro Am Geoff Emery showed the way ahead of Sam Shahin, Adrian Flack and Liam Talbot.

TOYOTA GAZOO RACING AUSTRALIA 86 SERIES

The practice sessions for the final round occurred in contrasting conditions, wet in the first and dry in the second. The latter sessions produced the faster times with Jobe Stewart leading the way on a 2 minute 37. 5547 seconds, over two tenths clear of Zach Bates. Third quickest was Lachlan Gibbons ahead of Bailey Sweeny, Harrison Gray, Ryan Wood, David Schulz and Lachlan Bloxsom.

With limited laps Rossi Johnson was ninth fastest before his session was shortened due to an engine issue and small oil fire. Twelfth placed Hayden Hume, behind Ryan Gilroy and Campbell Logan, also finished in drama when he clouted the wall at Skyline. Alex Hadden was missing after he crash in the earlier session at Forrest Elbow. Bates was fastest in the opener, ahead of Jarrod Hughes and Gibbons.

HATLECH V8 SUPERUTES

Points leader Aaron Borg will start the first race on Friday from pole position after he qualified the Sieders Racing Holden Colorado fastest. His best lap was a 2minutes 32.2305 seconds which was just 0.04 seconds in front of Craig Dontas (Ryco Racing Mitsubishi Triton).

Third was Craig Woods (Western Sydney Motorsport Toyota Hilux) ahead of David Sieders (Triton). Fifth place was George Gutierrez (Colorado) who had a big spin after Skyline at the end of the session but with no damage.

The same couldn’t be said for Rohan Barry who spun his Hilux into the concrete wall out of McPhillamy Park yet manage to get it back to the pits.

HERITATE REVIVAL

After two early practice sessions, qualifying was held at the end of the day with Terry Lawlor was the fastest in his Group C Ford Falcon XD. From a damp start, the track showed semblance of drying and his times were improving to a last lap effort of 2 minutes 38.2684 seconds.

Second best was Greg Keam (Group A Ford Mustang) with Nathan Gordon (Group Nc Holden Monaro HQ) next ahead of Doug Barbour (Group S Porsche 911 Carrera), Glenn Gerstel (Group C Falcon XE) and Luke Harrison whose Group N Mustang had to be repaired after wall contact earlier in the day.

The first session was wet, and it was Mark LeValliant (Group C Holden Commodore) who mastered the conditions best ahead of Brian Henderson (Group C Nissan Bluebird) and Quentin Bland (Group Nc Ford Capri). Henderson topped practice two with Lawlor second and Gerstel.
