ARCHERFIELD SPEEDWAY TO BE SOLD OFF

The Archerfield Speedway in Acacia Ridge, Queensland has moved closer to its expected sale with steps taken to sell off the 6.4 hectare site.
Owner and scrap metal king, Ron Wanless, opened the Speedway in 1978, but has recently made steps through appointing Cushman & Wakefield and CG property group to sell the land off.
In his racing days, Wanless competed in Speedway, Drag Racing and on the Australian touring car circuit before giving it away to focus on his business, Wanless Enviro Services, which he sold off in 2013.
His own racing success included winning the 1978 and ’79 Australian Speedway titles, whilst his sons Dean and Todd also competed on the Supercar circuit.
It is expected that the land could go for as much as $20,000,000 dollars, with industrial land in short supply in the area.
It was reported in May this year that the sale was imminent, as costs for running the venue had started to outweigh the revenue that it was bringing in.
Wanless is now in his 80’s and has contributed to the sport for 43 years, with Archerfield remaining a popular venue for spectators, he has well and truly done his part.
