TCR DRIVER GETS CALL UP FOR SUPERCARS TEST

By Dan McCarthy

TCR Australia driver Lachlan Mineeff will take part in his maiden Supercars test with Matt Stone Racing at Queensland Raceway tomorrow.

The 19-year-old Volkswagen Golf GTi TCR driver accepted the opportunity to cut laps with the team driving a Ford Falcon FG now run in the Super3 Series.

Mineeff knows the Matt Stone Racing Team well, this is an extension of the relationship between he and the Supercars team.

“Testing a Supercar for the first time is exciting and I grabbed the opportunity with both hands,” enthused Mineeff said.

At the Winton Supercars round last month Mineeff was seen working for the team.

Despite his age, Mineeff has a vastly experienced array of racing cars and machines fromFormula Ford to Time Attack, Production Car and TCR competition, however it is set to his first drive of a racing car with a V8 at the Queensland Circuit.

“It’s my first time driving anything on track with a V8, which is cool and it’s similar in horsepower to the Time Attack car I drove earlier this year,” he said.

“In terms of lap times the whole package is pretty serious, so with the history surrounding those cars and the team this opportunity is an exciting one for me.

“You’ve always got to keep your options open in motorsport and a very good example of that is TCR, which came up quite recently. It’s really great to meet the Matt Stone team and get some laps because you never know what may happen in the future.

“It’s quite funny the test will be at Queensland Raceway and that’s where our next TCR round will be, but even just any laps at that circuit are good.”

Mineeff believes the Supercar laps at QR will be beneficial for him later in the year.

Mineeff is regarded as a rising star of the sport. Career highlights include a class victory in the 2021, Bathurst 6 Hour production car event and was a previous round winner in the Australian Formula Ford Series back in 2019.”
