GEN3 CAMARO COMPLETES FIRST LAPS

By Dan McCarthy

The Gen3 Supercars Chevrolet Camaro has completed its first laps at Queensland Raceway.

Supercars has confirmed that the Camaro took to the circuit on Wednesday with Triple Eight’s current Supe2 driver and future main game talent Broc Feeney behind the wheel.

On the same day the Gen3 Ford Mustang completed its second test.

This marks the first time that the two Gen3 chassis’ have been driven together.

While Alex Davison drove the Mustang in its inaugural test last week, he was unable to take part in the second as he was on his way to Sydney Motorsport Park to take part in the additional co-driver practice session.

In his place former Brad Jones Racing driver Ash Walsh took to the wheel of the Mustang.

Walsh was set to drive with Jack Smith in this year’s Bathurst 1000, however due to border closures between Queensland and New South Wales it was unviable.

Supercars Head of Motorsport Adrian Burgess was delighted to see the Camaro developed by Triple Eight Race Engineering hit the road for the first time.

“It’s another significant day in Supercars history with the Camaro taking its first run at QR,” Burgess said to Supercars.com.

“Everything went as planned, it was a successful day.

“We rolled out nearly 200 kilometres relatively trouble-free, marking a successful shakedown.”

Both the Gen3 Camaro and Mustang will be revealed on Friday December 3, during the Bathurst 1000 weekend, before completing exhibitions rounds at every event next year.
