Supercars has confirmed that all four rounds prior to the Bathurst 1000 will take place at Sydney Motorsport Park.

In four successive weekends starting at the end of October, the Supercars Championship will race at SMP.

The four rounds will utilise Sydney Motorsport Park’s various circuit configurations, over different race formats, and lighting, as some races are set to take place under lights.

It has not been confirmed which layouts will be used, however we do know that the first and the final events are three-day meetings, while the middle two are short and sharp two day events.

After a three-month hiatus, on Friday October 29 Supercars will hit the track at SMP.

The first event takes place from October 29-October 31 and is followed by rounds from November 6-7 and November 13-14.

The final of the four events is listed on the Supercars website as the official Sydney SuperNight and will undoubtedly hold races under lights.

The final SMP round takes place a fortnight before the Bathurst 1000, giving teams ample time to travel to Bathurst for the six-day event.

Fans will be welcome at all four SMP rounds with ticket details to be provided in the coming days. Supercars expects to offer multi-event packages, family packages, park and view, grandstand and general admission options.

“It is fitting that we return to racing at Sydney Motorsport Park, as we did in 2020, those first races produced some of the best entertainment in years, and this time will be no different,” said Supercars CEO Sean Seamer.

“The venue is world-class and under its new permanent lighting makes for spectacular viewing for fans at the circuit and watching at home.

“First and foremost, we are happy to be back, but we will make sure we use everything that SMP has to offer to put on the best possible show.

“We look forward to seeing fans at all five events and will have details on those availabilities over coming weeks.”

“I would like to personally thank Minister Ayres, Destination New South Wales, and of course Glenn and his time at the ARDC for everything they’ve done to make this happen.”

Supercars had been planning to complete a double header at Queensland Raceway before two rounds at SMP, however series organisers were unable to agree on terms with the Queensland authorities.

As a result, Victorian teams were not allowed to enter the Sunshine State in an AFL style hub as previously reported by AA.

This has paved the way for an unprecedented four rounds back-to-back at a single venue.

SMP contains several circuit configurations, including the 3.93km Gardner Circuit which is used regularly by Supercars.

The 2.8km Druitt Circuit raced by Supercars in the 90s is still used today, as is the Brabham Circuit which contains a 600m extension on the Gardner Circuit never before utilised by Supercars.

“The Australian Racing Drivers’ Club is proud to co-drive alongside Supercars this history-making month-long racing showcase at Sydney Motorsport Park,” said Glenn Matthews (ARDC CEO).

“Sydney Motorsport Park is a proven big event venue and is ready for this exciting challenge across four consecutive rounds.

“The ARDC thanks the many valued event and experience partners who have made way for this unique series of races to occur.”

It is unknown which support categories will race at the various SMP rounds.

Full broadcast details will be revealed in due course.

Supercars will once again work closely with health authorities around COVID-safe measures at the venue to ensure the safety of everyone attending.
