Factory Suzuki rider Alex Rins will not take part in this weekend’s Catalan Grand Prix following a cycling accident, while riding the circuit on Thursday morning.

The 25-year-old was taken to Barcelona’s Universitari Dexeus hospital for further examination and medical checks where it was discovered he had fractured his right radius, ruling him out of this weekend’s event at the Catalunya circuit.

Suzuki confirmed the fracture is immobilised, forcing the Rins to undergo surgery.

Rins will not be replaced in this weekend’s MotoGP round leaving reigning world champion Joan Mir as the sole Suzuki representative on the grid.

It is hoped that Rins will be able to return for the German Motorcycle Grand Prix weekend from June 18-20.

This incident marks the first time since last year’s season opener in Jerez where Rins has missed a race after he crashed in qualifying, fracturing his right shoulder.

Rins missed several rounds during his maiden MotoGP season in 2017 when he sustained a broken left wrist and injured his radius after a high side during practice for the American MotoGP event.

Following on from third place in the MotoGP Championship last year, Rins has been out of form after crashing out of last weekend’s round at Mugello, his fourth race in a row where he has failed to score points.

After crashing out of the podium fight last weekend, Rins admitted his confidence was down.

“My head is not okay right now,” he said after the race last weekend.

“Four zeros in a row, it’s not easy for me or for the team.

“We are maybe passing the worst moment in our career because we have the speed, but we are not able to finish one race.

“We need to understand very well, because I was checking the data and was so difficult to understand the crash.”

Doubts surround the future of Rins at Suzuki beyond this season after he made his debut with the manufacturer in 2017.
