Marc Marquez has been given the all-clear to return to MotoGP competition at next week’s round in Portugal.

The factory Honda rider has spent the last nine months on the sidelines recovering from a broken right arm suffered during the 2020’s delayed season opener at Jerez.

Marquez subsequently completed three surgeries last year to repair the damage to his arm which saw him sit out the rest of the season as well as the opening two rounds for 2021 in Qatar.

“Yesterday I visited the doctors and they gave me the green light to return to competition,” Marquez wrote on Twitter.

“They have been nine difficult months, with moments of uncertainties and ups and downs, and now, I will be able to enjoy my passion again!”

“See you next week in Portimao!!”

While the six-time champion has been unable to compete, he recently took to the track onboard a Honda RC213V-S in an effort to confirm his fitness ahead of his return.

“In the review carried out on Marc Marquez by the Hospital Ruber Internacional medical team, four months after surgery, led by Doctors Samuel Antuña and Ignacio Roger de Oña, and made up of Doctors De Miguel, Ibarzabal and García Villanueva, for an infected pseudoarthrosis of the right humerus, a very satisfactory clinical condition was found, with evident progress in the bone consolidation process,” read a statement from the team.

Honda’s reserve rider Stefan Bradl has been filling in during Marquez’s absence.

The third round of the 2021 MotoGP season will take place at the Algarve International Circuit, with Pramac Ducati rider, Johann Zarco currently leading the points tally.
