MCLAUGHLIN INDY 500 LIVERY REVEALED

By Dan McCarthy

Reigning Supercars champion Scott McLaughlin will race with the iconic Pennzoil ‘Yellow Submarine’ livery in this year’s Indy 500.

The livery has been previously run by IndyCar legends including Rick Mears, Johnny Rutherford and Helio Castroneves.

Pennzoil has been a long-time supporter of the #3 Team Penske Chevrolet and will return to sponsor McLaughlin in the legendary Indy 500 on May 31.

For a majority of the 2021 IndyCar series the McLaughlin Team Penske machine will be backed by PPG, however at the other seven rounds he will run with a different livery, the Indy 500 being the first announced.

The Pennzoil livery was revealed ahead of a pre-season test at the Texas Motor Speedway, McLaughlin posted a video soon after saying how privileged he feels to continue the tradition in what will be his maiden 500.

“I’ve got the Yellow Submarine for the Indy500,” McLaughlin said. “It’s going to be a pretty special thing to run this for Shell for Pennzoil in my first 500.

“Trying to carry on the traditions and give success to this yellow submarine once again, I’m really excited to run the number three Pennzoil Chevy at the 500 this year.

“You’ll be able to see it so hopefully it will be at the front.”

The New Zealander wrote that he feels incredibly honoured to race in the Yellow Submarine.

“Can’t wait to carry on the legacy and honour all those that came before me by driving the #3 Pennzoil Yellow Submarine in this year’s Indy 500!”

McLaughlin made his debut in the IndyCar Series at the season ending St Petersburg Grand Prix last year.

The new season kicks off at Barber Motorsports Park on the morning of April 19 (AEDT).
