Six-time MotoGP champion Marc Marquez is on-track to make his competitive motorcycle racing return after receiving the all clear to intensify his recovery program.

The factory Honda rider fractured his right humerus during the opening race of the 2020 season at Jerez. However, while opening a window at home he broke the plate in his injured arm and after feeling discomfort in qualifying for the Andalusia Grand Prix he decided to not participate in the race.

A second operation was required to replace the plate and aimed to return at MotoGP’s round at Mugello last September, which was subsequently replaced by Misano.

However, in December Marquez had further surgery on his right humerus for a pseudoarthrosis, which resulted in replacement of the plate and the addition of an iliac crest bone graft with a corticoperiosteal free flap.

Three and a half months after the surgery, doctors have given Marquez the all clear after a satisfactory recovery.

A statement was released by the factory Repsol Honda MotoGP squad overnight updating on Marquez’s condition.

“In the medical review performed on Marc Marquez, 14 weeks after surgery for an infected pseudoarthrosis of the right humerus, the medical team led by Doctors Samuel Antuña and Ignacio Roger de Oña have clinically and radiographically verified satisfactory progression of bone consolidation,” the statement read.

“From this moment on, Marquez can now intensify his strength and mobility recovery programme with a view to gradually returning to competitive racing.”

It is unknown the timeline for Marquez’s return after missing the entirety of pre-season testing, but he is entered for the opening round in Qatar scheduled for March 28.
