Part 2 of Race Tasmania at Baskerville Raceway this weekend will be headlined by the National Trans Am Series which has drawn a substantial line-up of entries.
The Trans Am competitors have made the trek south from Symmons Plains to the undulating 2.01km Baskerville circuit, where the winner of Sunday’s feature race, the Trans Am Ten Thousand will collect $10,000.
Also featuring on the Boost Mobile Race Tasmania Baskerville support bill will be invitational races for the TCR Australia Series and Touring Car Masters, plus local classes including Hyundai Excels, HQ Holdens and Improved Production.
As well as this the S5000 Championship open-wheel machines will be attending the venue completing a series of demonstration runs.
After obliterating Alfredo Costanzo’s 40-year-old lap record at Symmons Plains, the S5000 drivers will aim to do the same at Baskerville.
In Trans Am the opening round front runners return, including Garry Rogers Motorsport S5000 driver Nathan Herne, third-generation racer Aaron Seton and former NASCAR competitor and Supercars co-driver, Tasmanian Owen Kelly.
Herne took the opening round honours after winning two of the three races at Symmons Plains, however Seton’s win in Race 2 stopped Herne from taking the clean sweep.
Multiple other serious contenders will be there including Brett Holdsworth (brother of former Supercars full-timer Lee), young gun Edan Thornburrow and former Super2 Series driver Sam Walter.
Four Trans Am races will be held over the weekend with the overall winner of the Roadways Tasmanian Ten Thousand being the victor in the final feature race on Sunday.
In TCR a total of six entries will compete in the non-championship round at Baskerville, the event will also include the first TCR Australia pole position shootout on Saturday.
The six entries are Jordan Cox (Alfa Romeo), Dylan O’Keeffe (Renault), Ben Bargwanna, Aaron Cameron (Peugeot) and Zac Soutar (Honda). While local Tassie driver Zac Hudson will make his TCR debut, driving Michael Caruso’s Alfa Romeo.
Touring Car Masters will also contain six entries and be joined on track by local Group N racers.
John Bowe will headline the field less than a week after claiming his historic 100th TCM win.
Garry Rogers Motorsport’s legendary 2002 Bathurst 24 Hour-winning Holden Monaro will also be cutting laps over the weekend.
The track action begins on Friday for practice, followed by continuous racing action on Saturday and Sunday.
