As revealed by Auto Action last week, Walkinshaw Andretti United has confirmed the addition of Grant McPherson to its engineering roster.

After guiding Triple Eight Race Engineering’s Shane van Gisbergen to maiden Supercars championship and Bathurst successes, McPherson joins WAU as head of performance, leading the team’s engineering group under technical director Carl Faux.
Starting at Triple Eight back in 2014 after seven-years at Ford Performance Racing (now Tickford Racing), McPherson was initially engineer to Craig Lowndes, which included the 2015 Bathurst 1000 before pairing with van Gisbergen when the Kiwi joined the team in 2016.
The partnership was immediately successful as van Gisbergen won the Supercars Championship.
McPherson joins a formidable engineering team led by Faux featuring Adam De Borre, Rob Starr and Terry Kerr.
Currently serving gardening leave, McPherson is expected to join his new team mid-next year.
“We are rapt to have Grant join our team. He is going to be a real asset to our engineering group, there isn’t many of his calibre up and down pitlane,” said WAU team principal Bruce Stewart.
“His technical expertise speaks for itself, but importantly, he is a great addition to our family, and fits into our culture really well, which was critical in our decision making.
“It’s nice to have someone from outside our four walls see the momentum we’ve built and the direction we are heading, and want to be a part of it.”
“We look forward to Grant joining us at the track in mid-2021, and seeing what we can achieve together.”

'description' => 'The Supercars Championship, currently known as the Repco Supercars Championship, is the premier motorsport category in Australasia and one of Australia\'s biggest sports. It originated from the Australian Touring Car Championship (ATCC), which held its first race in 1960 at Gnoo-Blas in Orange, New South Wales. The ATCC evolved over the years, and in 1997, it was rebranded as the V8 Supercars Championship, eventually becoming the Supercars Championship we know today.
Some of the leading drivers in the history of the Supercars Championship include Peter Brock, who is often referred to as the "King of the Mountain" for his nine victories at the Bathurst 1000, a race that is considered one of the biggest in the series. Other notable drivers include Dick Johnson, Marcos Ambrose, Craig Lowndes, Shane van Gisbergen, Jamie Whincup, who holds the record for the most championship titles, and Mark Skaife, who has also been a dominant force in the series.
The Bathurst 1000, held at Mount Panorama Circuit in Bathurst, New South Wales, is arguably the most famous race in the Supercars calendar. Other significant races include the Sandown 500 and the Adelaide 500, which are known for their challenging circuits and thrilling competitions.
