Reigning MotoGP champion Marc Marquez has undergone a second operation to fix his fractured arm and is now in a race against time to be ready for the third round in Brno this weekend.

The second operation was necessary as the titanium plate used to fix his right humerus was found to have suffered damage due to stress accumulation.
MotoGP traumatology specialist Dr. Xavier Mir and his team at the Universitari Dexeus Hospital were once again on hand, successfully replacing the titanium plate.
The factory Repsol Honda rider is now required to remain at the hospital for 48 hours before being discharged.
“Marc Marquez underwent surgery 13 days ago and today he returned to the operating room,” said Dr Mir.
“The first operation was successful, what was not expected was that the plate was insufficient. An accumulation of stress in the operated area has caused the plate to suffer some damage, so today the titanium plate has been removed and replaced by a new fixation.”
Dr Mir emphasised that the damaged plate has not caused the Spanish sensation any additional pain.
“The rider has not felt pain during this period,” Mir explained. “He has always followed the medical advice given and the feeling from his body. Unfortunately, an over stress has caused this issue.”
The injury was originally sustained after a vicious highside in the opening race of the year. It is strongly believed that the bike clattering Marquez after the fall caused the damage, not the landing itself.
Dr Mir explained that after the 48 hour wait, he will know Marquez’s condition and estimated return date.
“Now we have to wait 48 hours to understand the recovery time,” he said.
After missing the second round at Jerez, Marquez now sits 50 points behind championship leader Fabio Quartararo who is undefeated so far this season.
Many people have ruled out Marquez returning for this weekend’s Czech Grand Prix due to the surgery, but the Spaniard remains optimistic to be on the grid for Sunday’s race in Brno.
“We are working to try to arrive in the best possible conditions for the CzechGP,” Marquez said on social media.
