Former 23Red Pirtek Enduro Cup driver Alex Davison will take over James Courtney’s seat at the beleaguered Team Sydney.

By HEATH McALPINE

It was revealed two weeks ago that Courtney had split with the team after the opening round of the Supercars Championship in Adelaide where a last minute deal to bring Boost Mobile on as the main sponsor was arranged just prior to the weekend starting.

Courtney’s surprise early departure was a hit to the organisation formed out of Jonathan Webb’s Tekno Autosports team.

Davison will step in to fill the seat at Team Sydney for this round although the #19 Holden Commodore is yet to be seen at the track. He joins Chris Pither, who remains with the squad with Coca Cola backing.

This will be Davison’s first Supercars start at Albert Park since he was last a full-time driver for Charlie Schwerkolt Racing, then aligned with Ford Performance Racing in 2013. An experienced Supercars driver, Davison first entered the championship as a full-time entry with Perkins Engineering in 2005, before he pursued a career with Porsche in Europe. He then returned to Stone Brothers Racing in 2009, staying with the team before he was replaced by Lee Holdsworth for the 2012 season.

After his sole year with Charlie Schwerkolt, he has been a Pirtek Enduro Cup for Erebus Motorsport, Lucas Dumbrell Racing and at 23Red Racing alongside younger brother Will, however he has been replaced by Jack Perkins for this season.

Davison has previously been a Porsche Carrera Cup Australia race and round winner around Albert Park.
