SUPERCARS’ NEW control dampers will be branded by a major after-market automotive suspension supplier.

The set-spec shock absorbers will be supplied by South Australian specialist SupaShock, but in a major commercial deal will be labelled Pedder’s Suspension.
Supercars sources confirm the supply of control dampers has been awarded and specifications have been decided.

With an announcement of the commercial branding not due until February, neither Supercars nor Pedder’s is confirming the arrangement.

However, racing and suspension replacement industry sources have nominated SupaShock as the supplier and Pedder’s as the branding in what’s believed to be a five-year deal.

Supercars chief executive Sean Seamer confirmed to Auto Action that the control shock absorbers would have third-party commercial branding.

Supercars’ technical department is understood to have whittled the supply contenders from initial submissions from six damper makers to three and then following final submissions, decided on SupaShock.

Supercars has been testing the spec two-way adjustable dampers this season and is satisfied the final product is a strong product, as well as saving teams money.

According to Supercars’ own website, both Walkinshaw Andretti United drivers Scott Pye and James Courtney trialled the 2020 control dampers at the Newcastle 500.

AA understands the control shocks will cost under half current prices per damper – around $2000, down from $4000-4500 each.

Teams will be allocated three sets of dampers per car that will be sealed, allowing only external service by the supplier.
