MCLAUGHLIN TAKES POLE ON GOLD COAST, MOSTERT OUT FOR WEEKEND AFTER CRASH

Scott McLaughlin claimed pole position while Tickford Racing driver Mostert crashed heavily.

Scott McLaughlin has taken pole position for this afternoon’s first 300km race on the streets of the Gold Coast after pulling a sensational lap out of the bag in the Top 10 Shootout.

McLaughlin beat the Red Bull Racing pair of Jamie Whincup and Shane van Gisbergen who qualified in second and third respectively.

Tickford Racing driver Chaz Mostert was on provisional pole after the 20 minute Qualifying session, but in the shootout crashed at Turn 11.

The former Bathurst 1000 winner clipped the wall on the inside which fired him heavily into the outside concrete wall, the damage has wrote off his Ford Mustang and will see him sit out the remainder of the weekend.

Mostert will sit out the remainder of the weekend.

The other two Tickford Racing cars of Cameron Waters and Lee Holdsworth did however qualify in fourth and fifth respectively, just ahead of McLaughlin’s DJR Team Penske teammate Fabian Coulthard.

David Reynolds qualified eighth ahead of the sole Nissan Altima in the top 10, Andre Heimgartner.

James Courtney got a kerb strike on his lap, as a result did not set a time and will start from the fifth row in ninth.

The Saturday Supercars race gets underway at 4.00pm AEDT.
