CAMS has applied the following penalties after Coulthard slowed dramatically during a late-race safety car in last weekend’s Bathurst 1000, allowing teammate Scott McLaughlin and Jamie Whincup to bridge a 30s gap over the rest of the field.
- A Fine of $250,000, $100,000 of which is suspended until 31 December 2021 on condition that the Competitor commits no further breach of Appendix B of the ISC and no breach of any of Rules B6.5.4,(Conduct Prejudicial) or D24 (Team Orders) of the Supercars Operations Manual prior to that date
- Car #12 be demoted to finishing position 21 in the classification for Race 25
- The loss of 300 points from Virgin Australia Supercars Teams Championship Points.

CAMS CEO Eugene Arocca has also released the following statement:
“The penalty issued today regarding the breach of the ‘FIA International Sporting Code Appendix B’ reflects the serious nature of the incident that took place at the Supercheap Bathurst 1000,” Arocca said.
“It is also important to note that the money received from the fine will go directly into the Supercars’ Fines Fund, which is used exclusively for safety research and programs, as well safety related infrastructure, such as the development of in car warning systems or the Hawkeye system, which has been successfully implemented in the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship recently.
“I would also like to acknowledge DJR Team Penske’s co-operation with all requests from our stewards throughout this process.”
As a result of the penalties, DJR Team Penske now holds a 423-point advantage in the team’s standings and Coulthard has dropped to fourth from third in the drivers’ points, now 907 points adrift.
