As first announced by Auto Action in April, Kali Motorsport’s new Holden VC Commodore build is well advanced with fabrication all but finished as the team remain on track to debut the car at the opening round of the Adelaide 500 next year.

The driver that is set to debut the Lucas Dumbrell-owned Commodore in Adelaide, former V8 Ute racer Gerard McLeod is also completing the fabrication process. The Kali Motorsport Commodore is one of five that are set to enter the TCM field in the near future, but McLeod is confident his will be right on the pace from Round 1.

“The Commodore has all the ingredients to be a potent race winner in TCM due its slippery silhouette, the category V8 engine and the fact that it’s the newest generation car allowed on the TCM grid,” McLeod said.

Any doubts about the reliability and performance of the new-for-this-season TCM category engine have been squashed by McLeod, who believes it will make the Commodore a race winner.

“The TCM V8 category engine has had a rough initiation into the field with some reliability issues of late but we are sure that we have the correct ingredients of technical knowledge to make the most of the package in season 2020,” McLeod emphasised.

The rising competition and standards in TCM were taken into account when building the new Commodore with McLeod using the latest construction methods to make sure it is a winner.

“Any race car built properly takes a lot of time to be done right and we have left no stone unturned in the build of this car to make sure it’s as technically sound as it can be straight out of the box,” McLeod said.

“Building a current spec TCM car is a very involved process and we have not cut any corners in the research and development of the Commodore.”
McLeod plans to test the Commodore in January ahead of its debut and is enthusiastic about joining the popular class that was recently acquired by the Australian Racing Group.

“Lucas [Dumbrell] and I are really pumped about being part of the TCM field in 2020 and we hope that we can be a front running team straight out the box,” enthused McLeod.

“In this current motorsport climate, TCM is proving to be the most popular support category in Australia and with the new management rights the future is looking very bright for the category that so many motorsport diehards love.”
