Next year’s new-look Supercars calendar is now unlikely to be announced at next week’s Townsville 400.

AUTO ACTION is hearing that finalisation of the 2020 schedule has been delayed by on-going negotiations for the renewal of the Townsville and Gold Coast street race events.

Talks between Supercars and Tourism and Events Queensland for new multi-year deals are progressing.

TEQ helps underwrite the Townsville 400 and Gold Coast 600, as well as providing some funding for the Ipswich SuperSprint, which will also be up for renewal after next month’s running.

The 2020 schedule is expected to be a split season beginning earlier and ending later with a long winter break.

It has already been confirmed that the Adelaide 500 will start the season from February 20-23.

Supercars insiders are confident next year’s calendar will still be announced in July, which is months earlier than recent October announcements.

The delay in revealing the 2020 schedule also means the planned presentation of proposed updates to the technical and eligibility rules will also be postponed.

Supercars is looking at a major evolution – dubbed Next Generation – in 2021, preceded by interim changes next year.
