Ipswich City Council has signed off on essential upgrades to Queensland Raceway that will keep the circuit on the Supercars program for at least two years.

With the original 10-year redevelopment plans to create Ipswich Motorsport Park now shelved, future Supercars events at the Queensland venue have been provisional with safety improvements required to bring the circuit up to the necessary FIA Grade 3 standard required to host the championship.

An FIA track inspection last year highlighted the need for the essential upgrades, which put future Supercars rounds at the venue in jeopardy.

Those upgrades will now be funded by Ipswich City Council, after an agreement by councillors at a committee meeting on Tuesday night, allowing the work to be carried out ahead Supercars scheduled appearance in July. While a revised agreement will also keep Queensland Raceway on the Supercars calendar in 2019.

This year’s Coates Hire Ipswich SuperSprint will be held on July 20-22.
