Control Transmission supplier for the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship, Albins Performance Transmissions, has been awarded for its role in a defence contract.

Albins were presented with the CEO’s Award for Outstanding Small to Medium Enterprise at the Thales Australia Excellence Awards Dinner last week for its contribution to their defence Hawkei program, a light 4 x 4 protected mobility vehicle for the Australian Defence Force.

Presenting the award to Albins Director Stephen Macdonald, Thales Australia CEO Chris Jenkins cited the manufacturers’ commitment to quality and on-time delivery as being Albins’ greatest strengths, noting that Albins is a key partner in the Hawkei armoured vehicle program.

Minister Pyne said that SMEs are a vital part of Australia’s defence industry and acknowledged the role of Thales Australia’s strong supply chain in the success of the Hawkei program.

Albins Director Stephen Macdonald was surprised and delighted to accept the award.

“It was completely unexpected,” he said. “Albins is proud to have the opportunity to put our expertise to work with Thales Australia on this vital defence project, and to receive this award is a tremendous honour. Australia’s defence sector is highly competitive and our manufacturers are among the world’s best, so it’s a testament to the skills and professionalism of every member of the Albins team to be recognised in this way.”
