With 10 laps to go, Race 13 was set-up to be another Scott McLaughlin victory, but a late Safety Car livened up the race as McLaughlin made a small mistake on the restart, which was enough for Rick Kelly to pounce.

Kelly crossed the line 0.5310s clear of Scott Pye, who fended off a charging Shane van Gisbergen and Fabian Coulthard.

The race started with action as championship contender David Reynolds nudged the rear of Richie Stanaway at Turn 4, damaging his car. Worse was to happen to Stanaway as Jack Le Brocq tagged the Tickford Ford with both spinning as a result. Further damage was caused to Reynolds when he clashed with Todd Hazelwood further around the opening lap, losing six laps as repairs were made.

Tim Blanchard collided with James Golding, putting him into the bunker at Turn 4 to tip the race on its head as McLaughlin ran wide at Turn 1 allowing Kelly to pass at Turn 3 and Pye at Turn 4.

On fresher tyres, Pye and van Gisbergen pressured Kelly, but the Nissan was more of a much to give Kelly his first victory in 210 races.

Rounding out the top 10 were McLaughlin, Michael Caruso, Tim Slade, Garth Tander, James Courtney and Mark Winterbottom.

Tomorrow’s action starts at 10:45am for Qualifying for Race 14 before the 67-lap main event at 1:45pm AEST.
