Australian Indy 500 driver James Davison has emerged uninjured after an accident in his preparation for the Indy 500 on Fast Friday.

Davison lost control of his car and hit the wall on the outside of Turn 2 but luckily, he was not injured and left the car under his own steam. The Australian was 32nd fastest and was pushing hard to move out of the bubble in his A.J. Foyt Racing with Byrd-Hollinger-Belardi Chevrolet.

Driving in his fourth Indy 500 campaign Davison said that he had no warning before the car became loose.

“Absolutely none and then I was backwards,” Davison said.

“Obviously we had to try some things, we’re 32nd quickest right on the bubble and we’re not going to go faster standing there looking at it.

“No regrets.”

Team Owner Brian Belardi revealed that the tub of the No. 33 was undamaged, but the gearbox is mangled and there is no certainty that the replacement parts will provide the same package that Davison had before the crash.

However, Davison is confident that the team will recover and he will qualify for next weekend’s 102nd running of the race.

“We’ll regroup and see what we can pull out of the bag tomorrow and give it everything again.”

Marco Andretti continued his form to be fastest at the end of practice, notching up over 237mph through the Turn speed trapap on his fastest run as he set an average of 231.802mph. Rookie Robert Wickens completed practice second, while Ed Carpenter was third.

The other Australian in the field, Will Power, ended practice fifth fastest.
