“The opportunity is a unique one – I didn’t expect to be making my car racing debut in New Zealand,” said Feeney.
“The chance to drive with Neil Allport Motorsport in the New Zealand Toyota 86 Series season closer came about unexpectedly and one that will give me a whole heap of experience ahead of starting the Australian Series in April.”
While it will be Feeney’s first trip to Hampton Downs, the youngster is well versed in racing internationally from his karting career.
“I’ve not been to Hampton Downs before, so any opportunity that I’ve had, I’ve tested on the simulator and then when we arrive in New Zealand, any chance to walk the track and talk with the team and some other people who have raced there previously will be a priority for me.” said Feeney.
After winning the Australian Junior Karting Championship last year, Gold Coaster Feeney confirmed that he will drive in the Australian Toyota 86 Racing Series, which will support the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship starting at Phillip Island in Victoria on April 20-22. Racing for Paul Feeney Group Race Team which recently purchased the car that won the Championship in 2016 at the hands of Will Brown.
“It has been busy in getting the car ready for the Australian Series, along with racing the opening round of the Australian Kart Championship, where I finished third, so it will be nice to have a new experience this weekend at Hampton Downs and use it to advance my understanding of racing in cars and approaching new tracks.” Feeney continued.
“It promises to be a big weekend and lots of track time, which is great and I know that we’ll be getting a lot of support from back in Australia and from the team at Neil Allport Motorsport.”
The New Zealand Toyota 86 Racing Series runs as a support category to the BNT New Zealand V8 Touring Cars this weekend at Hampton Downs.
