THE AUSTRALIAN Sports Sedan Series title winner and the final placings in the V8 Touring Car Series were decided at a brilliant Muscle Car Masters meet on October 28-29.

Birol Cetin and his Chev Camaro came into the fifth and final round at Sydney Motorsport Park with a narrow advantage over rivals Michael Robinson (Monaro/Chev) and Jack Perkins (Audi/Chev), and came away with the 2017 title.

Steven Lacey (Camaro) won the round ahead of Cetin and Grant Doulman (Commodore/Chev) with a win in race two, and a second in race three. Robinson was second in the title chase with Lacey third.

Perkins started race two from the back of the grid after failing to finish yesterday’s first race due to spitting an injector. He charged through to fifth spot until ousted with an electrical fire.

BEFORE JACK Smith went into celebration mode for winning this year’s title, second placed in the Championship series was up for grabs, entering the third and final race of the fifth round.

Tyler Greenbury had a two-point advantage and the Eggleston Motorsport ex-Triple 8 Holden Commodore VE driver finished second to Smith (Brad Jones Racing VE) to secure overall second.

Michael Anderson (ex-Ford Performance Racing Falcon FG) crossed the line fourth behind Jon McCorkindale (ex-Stone Brothers Racing Falcon BF) to finish third overall and win the ‘privateers’ Kumho Cup.

THE TWO Groups (A and C) were split for their third outings of the weekend with Jack Perkins taking out the former in David Gardner’s ex-Alf Barbagallo Holden Commodore VN.

Perkin led throughout, leaving Carey McMahon and Terry Lawlor in their respective ex-Dick Johnson Racing and ex-B&H Racing Ford Sierras to fight it out for second. In the end they were split by Tony Alford who charged through to third in the ex-GIO Nissan Skyline, having started rear of grid.

Frank Binding (ex-Army Reserve Ford Falcon XD) was a comfortable winner of the Group C only event while the battle for second was a three-way affair where eventually, Phil Verwoers (Mazda RX7) came out on top of Michael Logiudice (Holden Torana A9X) and Ed Singleton in his Ford Falcon XC Coupe.

In the last combined race for the two groups, Alford was a clear winner over Perkins with Lawlor next ahead of McMahon, the VL Walkinshaws driven by Norm Mogg and Adrian Allisey, Steve Webb (Sierra) and Binding

CLUBSPORTS SHOWED the way in both races. Initially Trevor Symonds who won Saturday’s race, held sway until Mark Caine managed to slip by and take victory in the morning’s race two.

Matthew Holt was third and Tony Virag fourth. Anthon Soole was close behind the four hot Holdens in his BMW 1M, showing the way to the EVOs driven by Leigh Burges and Paul Loiacono who recovered well after an early spin.

In race three it was Caine all the way while Symonds fended off his line of rivals immediately behind all the way to the flag. In the end Loiacono filtered through to finish third ahead of Holt, Burges, Soole and Greg Symes (EVO).

IT WAS all David Wall in Group Nc, piloting the ex-Ian ‘Pete’ Geoghegan Ford Mustang GTA to a pair of comfortable wins. The first was over Andrew Taite (Chev Camaro) and it looked tight on paper, but that was because of a 5s penalty incurred.

Third went to Simon Phillips (Holden Torana XU-1) ahead of the Mazda RX2s steered by Bill Allard and Wayne Rogerson, and Peter Baguley, John Wright and Ethan Lind in their Toranas, and Michael Anderson (Falcon GT) from the rear of the grid.

Numbers were down for the last, and Taite retired mid-race, leaving Attard to win an entertaining dice over Rogerson and Baguley while Grant Wilson (Camaro) chased in their wake.

Mustang drivers also won the Group Nb races. Bob Munday got the jump on Greg Toepfer in race two to lead all the way. It looked like a similar scenario in the third – until Toepfer found a way past for the victory.

In both races Matt Windsor (Lotus Cortina) battled past a swarm of Minis to claim third, similarly so Phil Shepherd in his Holden EH for a pair of fourths.

One of the anticipated events for the class was the Torana Anniversary Race with 17 Group Nc XU-1s putting on a great turn-out. Phillips was the winner ahead of absorbing race for second where John Wright won out over Greg Luca.
