Erebus Motorsport and Penrite will pay tribute to the Peter and Phil Brock’s 1976 Sandown 500 winning livery this weekend.

The No. 9 Holden Commodore of David Reynolds and Luke Youlden will trade its familiar colours for the red, white and blue livery of the Holden L34 Torana campaigned by the Brock’s at the ’76 Sandown event.

The win marked Brock’s third Sandown enduro win and the second in a streak of seven that ran from 1975 to 1981.

“Pete and Sandown just had something with each other and if he finished he won; that year we won by two laps and it really shocked a lot of people, it was pretty special” Phil Brock said.

“Personally, I had not driven with my brother before and when he went out by himself that year he asked if I would drive with him in the endurance races which I was very happy to do.

“Pete really wanted to do his own thing so he started up Team Brock, and being Aussie’s the natural thing was the Australian flag, hence the car being red, white and blue.”

The team will transform their entire look, with the garage, race suits and crew uniform to suit those of the 70’s.

“It’s great to be heading to Sandown in 70’s fashion with the Team Brock car, branded Team Erebus,” Reynolds said.

“Peter certainly raised the bar, and hopefully we can replicate his success this weekend, although by two laps could be a bit of a stretch.

“It’s the best livery we’ve had, it’s really clean and simple and showcases the Australian made and owned theme for Penrite.”

This is the second Erebus retro livery to be announced, with Dale Wood and Chris Pither’s livery announced yesterday.
