MCCONVILLE JOINS CARRERA CUP

By Heath McAlpine

Zagame Motorsport has announced that Cameron McConville and Michael Almond will reunite to drive a pair of Porsche 991 Cup Cars in this year’s Australian Porsche Carrera Cup.

Zagame has already committed to a Australian Endurance Championship program with a Lamborghini Huracan GT3, a pair of Formula 4s for Tyler Everingham and Ryan Suhle and is the Australian dealer for McLaren’s GT4-spec 650s.

The pair of Porsche 991 Cup Cars will sport sponsorship from Repair Management Australia, with McConville relishing the challenge of managing Zagame’s Motorsport division and racing in Carrera Cup.

“It’s certainly our aim to be a front-running team from the season’s outset, said McConville. “Both Mike and I have experience around the Clipsal 500 and Albert Park circuits, and Mike returns to Adelaide as a defending race winner. I’m looking forward to the challenge of not only managing Zagame Motorsport into its maiden Carrera Cup season, but also, as a driver, doing my best in what will be an extremely competitive Porsche field.”

Almond took his maiden victory on the streets of Adelaide last year and will be looking to emulate the form he showed at the end of last year during 2017.

Racing in Adelaide is always special, and it’s great to be back alongside Cam and be part of the new Zagame Motorsport operation,” said Almond.

“Last year’s Adelaide round was a highlight of my motor racing career; taking the race win in front of a home crowd. It’s an event I thoroughly enjoy and I hope I can take similar success from this year’s season opener.

“Each season we look at the front end of the Carrera Cup field and say how competitive it is. I don’t think this year is any different; there are some great drivers in this year’s championship, including my team-mate Cam, so the series will again provide some great racing and a real challenge to get to the pointy end. I’m really looking forward to getting the season underway in Adelaide.”

Zagame Motorsport has also committed to competing in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge, the feeder class to Carrera Cup.
