Jones fuelled by SA support

By Thomas Miles

The stickers will change for Macauley Jones once again ahead of the final round of the 2023 Supercars Championship where he will enjoy some South Australian support.

South Australia will become the epicentre of the motorsport world next weekend when the VALO Adelaide 500 makes a three-year comeback and Jones’ #96 Brad Jones Racing Commodore will be seen in black and red TRG Transport colours.

It is a familiar look being the livery Jones raced with at The Bend Supersprint and he hopes the local support can push him to a strong result.

“To have two local companies on board for Adelaide I guess we could almost claim this as a home track race for us, so it’s very special to have them on board,” Jones said.

“Both Tony (Musolino) from TRG and Matt from TRG have become great supporters and friends of ours during the last couple of seasons and we’re hoping to have a really good weekend and round out 2022 on a high.”

Jones currently sits 20th in the championship and is within striking distance of Jack Le Brocq, who he needs to overtake to match his personal best result in 2019.

He will carry the same livery where he finished 14th in the first race on the Sunday.

Fans have become used to Jones running new liveries throughout the season, being the fifth colour scheme change in as many rounds since the last trip to South Australia.

Car #96 is fresh from another big rebuild after catching his grey Commodore alight following the multi-car Beach Chicane incident.

Jones carries some scars from the Adelaide 500 with his 2019 campaign marred by a scary shunt at Turn 9 which ruled him out of the season-opening Saturday race.

Despite the horrific Practice smash, Jones has reached the chequered flag in the three races he has started at the event with a best finish of P17 in 2020.

TRG Transport has been a long-time supporter of BJR, putting its colours on Todd Hazelwood’s Commodore in both the 2020 and 2021 visits to the Bend, in addition to Jones earlier this year.

With the return of the Adelaide 500 announced earlier this year, it was a no brainer for TRG Transport Managing Director Tony Musolino.

This coming week is going to be massive. It’s not only the return of the 500 to Adelaide but South Aussies get to host the Supercars Grand Final. How good is that!

“We’re looking forward to an amazing week of motorsport and celebration and we just had to have TRG back on Macca’s car for it. No question.

“We’ve had the opportunity to really get to know the team at BJR even more this year and we’ve really enjoyed being able to showcase TRG aboard Macca’s car first at The Bend and now as Supercars bring the Adelaide race home.

“To celebrate we’ve got Macca, Bryce (Fullwood) and Andre (Heimgartner) dropping by TRG on Tuesday morning alongside the race cars and we’re planning on giving them a big SA welcome and get the week underway with a bang.”

The TRG/BJR Fan Event / livery reveal is open to the public at TRG Transport 101 Wilkins Road, Wingfield SA from 10am-12pm Tuesday 29 November.

The VALO Adelaide 500 takes places from December 1-4.
