Coffs Coast Festival Grafton Speedway Finale

By Timothy Neal

The final day of the Coffs Coast Festival of Motor Sport gets underway tomorrow evening at the Grafton Speedway on Saturday, November 26.

The mammoth month-long festival of motorsport has been a hit in its inaugural running, with the closing weekend coinciding with the final rounds of the Australian Rally Championship and Asia Pacific Rally Championship, along with the NSW Rally Championship.

But in the midst of the rally events, the Hession Auto Parts Grafton Speedway officially opens its season for 2022/23, with plenty of improvements made to the popular track.

New light towers have been installed at the speedway, as its promoters head into their fourth season of operations.

“It’s been a massive off-season and although we have had to delay last month’s season opener, the track is looking great and we are all ready for what we hope is going to be a huge season,” said Mick Corbett, the Grafton Speedway promoter.

“We are very proud of the fact that we have grown with every passing season, so hopefully we can continue that this coming season and be able to help take the race fans’ experience to another level.”

The season kicks off with the popular V8 Dirt Modifieds roaring around the track under its new lighting rig, headlining the event with a 15-strong field that includes the likes of five-time Australian Champion Kevin Britten from Queensland, along with locals Andrew and Taylah Firth, Brock Gardiner and Scott Quirk.

Joining the V8’s on the 400m track, will be the hotly contested Wingless Sprints with the likes of Jacob Jolley and David Eggins taking to the dirt.

The program for the Coffs Coast festival speedway final also consists of RSA Street Stockers, Production Sedans, RSA Four Cylinder Sedans, Legend Cars and SSA Junior Sedans.

The action starts at 5pm local time, with the gates flung open at 3pm with tickets onsite at the gates from $25 for adults, to family tickets for two adults and two children for $65. Visit www.graftonspeedway.com.au for full ticket and event information.
