MURPHY THANKFUL FOR EREBUS WILDCARD DEDICATION

Greg Murphy has given his praise for the dedication Erebus Motorsport has shown in resurrecting Will Brown’s heavily damaged car, rescuing he and Richie Stanaway’s fan-inspired Bathurst wildcard entry.

It was announced yesterday that the #9 Boost Mobile car was fixable prior to October’s Bathurst hit-out after some initial concerns over the possibility of its rebuild.

The news came as a great relief to the four-time Bathurst 1000 winner, as the word spread out of Mount Gambier, where the car was being accessed, that it was green lights for ‘The Great Race.’

“It’s Murphy’s law with this wildcard, if it can go wrong it will…the crash couldn’t have happened at a worse possible moment,” Murphy expressed.

“It felt like that was the last spanner thrown in the works, and to think that things could have been derailed was incredibly disappointing.

 “I wouldn’t have taken it too well if we’d have had to postpone it again but I know everyone was willing to move hell and high water to make sure that didn’t happen.

“I was positive about a solution being found, no matter what that was, and it’s great news to hear that the team are going to be able to repair car #9,” Murphy continued, heaping deserved praise on the Erebus crew.

 “The crews really are the unsung heroes of the game, they’re so passionate and committed to the sport, the jobs they do and when something like this happens they’re really forced to dig deep.

 “It’s going to take a lot of hard work but the team knows what they’re doing, they’ve done it before and to know that it’s all under control is great.

 “It’s not new but it still shouldn’t go unrecognised, it’s amazing and deserves a lot of praise and acknowledgement.”

As expressed to AUTO ACTION by Boost Mobile Director Peter Adderton, Murphy reiterated that this wildcard Bathurst outing is all about delivering for the fans.

“We’re going to Bathurst for a very different reason than most drivers, it’s really all about the fans, and to witness the support first hand in Pukekohe really does excite me to go back and be part of it,” Murphy said.

 The #51 wildcard is due to complete their final test day at Winton on September 28, before heading to Mount Panorama for the Bathurst 1000, October 6 – 9.
