ADDERTON BUOYED BY BOOST WILDCARD SUPERCARS PADDOCK SUPPORT

By Bruce Williams

Boost Mobiles Peter Adderton is overwhelmed by the support of the people in the Supercar paddock. “I didn’t think that the Supercars fraternity were actually like that, and that’s a big miss on my part, but they have been unbelievable.

“One way or another we will have the Boost Mobile car on the grid for Bathurst, it’s not for me or Murph or Richie, it’s for the fans.” Adderton told AUTO ACTION today.

Following Will Brown’s spectacular Pukekohe crash in the #9 Erebus car, some doubt had been thrown over the availability of an Erebus Motorsport ZB Commodore for the Boost Mobile backed Greg Murphy/Richie Stanaway Bathurst 1000 wildcard entry.

With the crash still fresh, Erebus’ Barry Ryan, who was obviously upset, suggested that there was doubt that the damaged car could be fixed in time, if at all.

“We still needed to get the car back and do a full inspection to 100% confirm if the chassis can be fixed.” Ryan said.

If the extensive damage to the chassis can’t be fixed in the next couple of weeks for the October Bathurst 1000, Brown and Jack Perkins would be forced to move into the race car allocated to run as the #51 Boost Mobile wildcard entry.

Peter Adderton, the Boost Mobile Director, told AUTO ACTION that he is optimistic that Erebus can deliver on the ‘Wild Card’ program.

“We’re really hoping that Barry and the Erebus team get the car fixed and ready to run, it’s something we’re hoping will happen, but we are working on a plan B if not.” Said Adderton.

He also stated that the support offered from the Supercars pit lane has blown his mind.

“And I will say this, that at out the front of the garages, the teams are obviously very competitive and aggressive, which you would expect.

“But at the back of house in the pits and behind the scenes, the amount of people involved directly with Supercar teams that have rang up to offer support, to do whatever they can to make this happen, has blown my mind.

“I did not think that the Supercars fraternity were actually like that, and that’s a big miss on my part, but they have been unbelievable.

“And I understand that everyone is competitive at the front, but everyone’s trying to help and support to get this wildcard happening, because at the end of the day, it’s for the fans.

“We’d love for this to happen with Erebus and Barry, but we’re committed to the program with Murphy and Stanaway, so we have to do what we can to make this wildcard a realisation.” Adderton confirmed.

Barry Ryan spoke to AUTO ACTION today and while still not sure, he said that they’re always confident of being able to repair any severe damage, and he claimed to be optimistic that Erebus would run the Boost Mobile ‘Wildcard’ entry for Bathurst.

“I’m sure that it’ll be fine, I couldn’t put my eggs in one basket and say it was 100% yesterday, because we have to get it back in the shop and have a good look first of all,” said Ryan.

“We are always positive about fixing cars but sometimes you can’t overcommit initially.

“I’m confident that it’s fixable and we’re pretty sure that’ll be the car that Will Brown will race at Bathurst, with the car that Murph and Richie tested at Winton being the one they’ll race the Bathurst wildcard with.” Ryan confirmed to AUTO ACTION.

With the car due to arrive back from New Zealand in Melbourne on Wednesday, a full assessment can’t happen until then.

With only a few weeks to the ‘Great Race’ the added pressure will be on the team to deliver three cars to Mount Panorama.
