PACKED SUPER3 FIELD GEARS UP FOR SUPERCARS SUPPORT AT SANDOWN

The Super3 field for this weekend’s Supercars event will take to the grid with 16 starter’s, including a late edition from New Zealand in Jordan Michels.

It marks the first time since 2019 that the Super3 will compete at Sandown, and will also be the largest field to compete since that date.

Michels has been invited over for the first time since the advent of COVID, and will take to the track in Shane Van Gisbergen’s old FG Falcon which will be prepared by Image Racing.

Since arriving back in Australia, Michels has tested the car at Winton Raceway, and also competed in the Formula Ford at round 4 of the Vic State Racing Series at Sandown over the weekend.

Kiwi Jordan Michels is back in Australia to contest the Super3 at Sandown

He raced for G-Force Motorsport and finished third for the weekend overall in the Kent class.

He joins a competitive field in the Super3, which is currently led by South Australian teenager Kai Allen, racing for Eggleston Motorsport in a Commodore VE.

Allen has taken five poles in six races this year, and has claimed top honours in four of them, holding a slim championship lead over consistent performer’s Blake Fardell and Brad Vaughan.

Touring Car Masters racer Jim Pollicina will also be racing, along with Jason Foley in the ex Dick Johnson Racing BF Falcon, and regular contender Brendan Strong,

The Super3 Series grid will join the Super2 field for a pair of 22-lap races at Sandown this weekend, during the Penrite Oils SuperSprint.
