Tyres and tyre pressures are likely to be a major talking point throughout Supercars’ Darwin Triple Crown event with Chaz Mostert the first to fall foul of the new minimum tyre pressures.
For this weekend Supercars sole tyre supplier Dunlop has upped the minimum Psi to 20, however Walkinshaw Andretti United driver Mostert fell shy of the mark and has been disqualified from the second practice session.
The reigning Bathurst 1000 winner topped the opening session and backed it up solidly with the sixth fastest time.
However, Mostert was found to have dipped under the minimum and his penalty is an instant disqualification from the session.
Post-session a steward’s summary has been sent out and it reads as follows –
“During the Session the Stewards received a report from the HoM that the pressure of the rear left Control Tyre on Car #25 as it entered the Circuit at the commencement of the Session was below the mandatory minimum tyre pressure for this Event of 20psi to be achieved at any time a Car is on the Circuit during any Session,” it said.
“The matter was investigated following the Session and, after an admission to the breach by WAU Racing, the Stewards disqualified Car 25 from Practice 2.”
Nobody up and down the lane would like to repeat this mistake, it would mean either a rear-of-grid penalty or a race disqualification depending on which session the crime was committed.
