TEAM 18 PAIR TO SHARE CAR AT WINTON TEST

TEAM 18 PAIR TO SHARE CAR AT WINTON TEST

By Timothy Neal

Team 18 will take on a testing regime at Winton Raceway today, despite having just one Supercar to work with.

Scott Pye’s #20 Holden ZB Commodore suffered significant damage in an incident with Jack Le Brocq at Wanneroo Raceway just over a week ago, requiring the machine to be put on a jig at Walkinshaw Andretti United.

The car will be repaired in time for the Winton SuperSprint from May 21-22, however it is unavailable for testing.

As such, Pye and Mark Winterbottom will be forced to share the latter’s #18 Commodore today, cutting laps at the venue of the next Supercars Championship round.

Joining the Team 18 pair will be Triple Eight Race Engineering driver Broc Feeney, who will complete a rookie test. As a customer team, Team 18 will have access to Triple Eight resources throughout the day.

Other Victorian teams will also be present at Winton today, undertaking some crucial track running before the Winton SuperSprint.

“It’s not an ideal situation only going with one car up to Winton, however we will certainly make the most of it,” Team 18 Owner Charlie Schwerkolt said.

“I think most if not all Victorian teams are testing, so I think there’s more advantages to test some new bits and pieces ahead of the next race.

“It will be a full-on day with Frosty doing the majority of the driving while Scott will hop in and get plenty of laps as well.

“We’ll have our full crew on hand so it will be a busy day with plenty of things we want to throw at the car.

“It will be great to be garaged next door to Triple Eight with Broc Feeney who have a rare opportunity to test there as well, so that will only strengthen our ties with them.

“We will be keeping an eye on each other, sharing our data and resources so there will be plenty going on between us.”
