British driver Dan Ticktum and American Oliver Askew will race in the Formula E World Championship next year after signing deals with NIO 333 and Avalanche Andretti, respectively.

Ticktum is set to drive the #3 car and joins category veteran Oliver Turvey in a two-car line up for the upcoming season.

The 22-year-old moves into Formula E from Formula 2, where he spent the last two seasons and achieved three race wins.

A controversial figure in motorsport, Ticktum sits fourth in the current F2 season with two rounds remaining, driving with Carlin after spending his first full season with DAMS.

Heading into a new chapter in his career, Ticktum was looking forward to the challenge.

“I am very happy to be racing with the NIO 333 Formula E team,” said Ticktum.

“It’s going to be quite a big challenge as I have not had long to prepare for the test next week, and Formula E is complicated, but it’ll be very exciting.

“There are quite a few different tools you can use as a driver but it’s a totally different experience to Formula 2, so I’m really looking forward to it, both mentally and physically.

“I’ve had a great few days with the team at Silverstone this week and hopefully we can try to make some progress next season and get further up the grid.”

NIO 333 team CEO Vincent Wang was full of praise in welcoming Ticktum.

“The results that impress me the most are Daniel’s two victories in the Macau Grand Prix, one of the most famous races in the world,” Wang said.

“Though he has shouldered some difficulties during his career, I believe that his experience will pave the way to success. He is a young, bright new star who will shine in Formula E.”

Askew will also be racing in Formula E for the first time, after progressing through the US open wheel ranks.

Driving for Avalanche Andretti, Askew joins the team alongside Jake Dennis, completing its Formula E driver selections.

The 24-year-old previously drove under the Andretti name in Indy Lights, winning the second-tier Road to Indy series in 2019.

After signing on for 2022, Askew becomes the first American to compete full-time in Formula E.

“We’re happy to welcome Oliver back to the Andretti family to round out our Formula E driver line up,” Andretti Autosport CEO and chairman Michael Andretti said.

“We had a lot of success with Oliver back in 2019 when he won the Indy Lights Championship with us and we’re looking forward to introducing him to Formula E.

“He’s a hard worker and races smart, we’re confident he’ll apply that to this new opportunity.

“We’re also pretty excited to be able to field the first full-time American driver in such an exciting, international series.”

Askew has made 17 appearances in the premier IndyCar Series over the last two seasons, scoring a podium race finish in 2020.

He has also driven in the IMSA Sportscar Championship, winning on debut at Daytona International Speedway.

Askew was looking forward to re-joining Andretti in Formula E.

“I am beyond excited to return home and join Andretti Autosport full time again for the 2021/2022 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship,” Askew said.

“I consider Andretti Autosport family and to be able to attack this chapter in my career with them means more than words can describe.

“Being the only confirmed driver to represent the United States in Formula E is something I am very proud of. I look forward to getting to work as soon as possible.”

The 2022 Formula E season will get underway in Saudi Arabia on January 28.
