The fourth round of the Australian Motor Racing Series (AMRS) scheduled from August 6-8 at Queensland Raceway has been cancelled.

Initially series management planned to postpone the round and reschedule it due to recent COVID-19 outbreaks, but this has now been ruled out.

Uncertainty surrounding the location and duration of lockdowns, in addition to the unsuitability of future circuit availability have been cited as the central factors in the decision.

It is understood that alternative dates were offered but were impractical for the entrants.

“We were intending to postpone the round by four to six weeks,” AMRS Series manager Matt Baragwanath said.

“We thank Queensland Raceway for attempting to accommodate us, but unfortunately their vacant dates do not suit the needs of our customers.

“Queensland Raceway was set to be one of our biggest rounds of the year, so we are extremely disappointed we are unable to proceed with it.”

An updated calendar including the existing Wakefield Park and Tailem Bend fixtures along with an additional round is set to be announced soon by the AMRS.

The extra round is likely to take place at Winton.

The AMRS announcement is the latest of multiple motorsport event cancellations that have occurred recently.

Winton was meant to host a round of the AMRS over the weekend of July 17-18 just gone, but that was postponed due to the COVID-19 lockdown in Victoria.
