SEVEN’S SUPERCARS VIEWERS UP ON CHANNEL 10

The Channel 7 coverage of the Darwin Triple Crown far out rated the corresponding event on Network 10 in the Northern Territory last year.

At the start of this year Channel 7 reclaimed the sole free to air television rights to the Supercars Championship alongside paid partner Fox Sports.

Network Seven has rights to several live events, while the rest are shown as a highlights package on Sunday or Monday night.

After losing the exclusive rights at the end of 2014 to Fox Sports and the 10 Network the network has really emphasised its motorsport coverage.

As well as showcasing Supercars the network is also showing the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championship live on 7Mate and/or 7Plus.

The Darwin Triple Crown was just the second Supercars event at that the network had covered and gained a total audience of 2.22 million people across its platforms during two-day coverage.

While Dick Johnson racing Blue Oval drivers Will Davison and Anton de Pasquale took the pole positions, it was the red army that took the race winning honours.

Shane van Gisbergen won two of the three races, while the other was won by Walkinshaw Andretti United driver Chaz Mostert.

Seven’s 2.22 million viewers was a staggering 19% up on the corresponding Supercars Championship shown on Network 10 at Darwin last year.

Of the over two millions viewers, 1.44 million came from the capital cities scattered around the nation, while the remainder of the numbers were outside of the capitals.

The network was also pleased to announce that it tripled the audience share of paid broadcaster Fox Sports.

On Saturday, 75% of the nation’s Supercars viewers tuned their TV’s to Channel 7 as the network claimed 74% of the audience share when Mostert earnt his second victory with Walkinshaw Andretti United.

This was follows up on Sunday when74% tuned in to watch van Gisbergen equal Peter Brock on 48 career wins in the ATCC/Supercars Championship

Aside from the main Channel 7 free to air coverage, on 7Plus a total of 1.61 million minutes of Supercars action was streamed.

On Sunday an average of 388,000 people viewed Race 14 live and free on Seven.

Seven’s live coverage returns on 10-11 July when the Supercars Championship visits in far North Queensland.
