WATERS TO RACE WITH INDIGENOUS INSPIRED HELMET

Supercars Championship front-runner Cameron Waters will race with a unique crash helmet this weekend in Darwin as part of the Indigenous Round Hidden Valley Raceway.

The Tickford Racing driver’s his helmet was designed by young aboriginal artist Chantelle Mitchell, a member of the Barkindji Nation and like Waters, Mitchell is from the town of Mildura.

Waters is very pleased with the outcome and expressed his gratitude on social media.

“I’m stoked to reveal my newly painted helmet for this weekend’s Hidden Valley Supercars event in Darwin,” he said.

“Complete with inspirational artwork from Mildura-based Aboriginal artist, Chantelle ‘Channy’ Mitchell Channy Mitchell Art … who has done a truly great job depicting my hometown region, including a nice reference to the Murray River where I spend so much of my spare time over summer.

“Thanks heaps ‘Channy’ … and also to Frank at R-Star Design rStar Design for his brilliant work in replicating the original artwork into this fantastic finished product.

“Here’s to it being my lucky charm this coming weekend.”

Mitchell’s artwork came to the fore in national sport when the 20-year-old painted a pair of boots for Richmond AFLW player Courtney Wakefield as part of the indigenous round.

After finishing second in the Supercars Championship last year, Waters has had a solid start to the 2021 season.

The Tickford racer has already scored four podiums, including a victory in the most recent Supercars Championship race at The Bend Motorsport Park in South Australia.

Waters will run his indigenous inspired helmet throughout the three-day event in the Northern Territory.

The Supercars round at Hidden valley will take place from June 18-20.
