GRM AT TCR CAPACITY

GRM at TCR capacity

By Dan McCarthy

Garry Rogers Motorsport team owner Barry Rogers has declared that seven TCR cars is the limit for his operation in a full-time capacity.

The former Bathurst 1000 and two-time 24-hour winning operation currently runs seven cars in TCR Australia, with three Peugeots, two Alfa Romeos and two Renaults.

Along with the seven TCR cars, GRM fields three machines in the S5000 Australian Drivers’ Championship and now, as revealed by Auto Action, the National Trans Am Series.

However, running seven TCR cars full-time is the limit according to Rogers.

“We have got another two brand new Peugeots, another Alfa and the Renault (that was damaged in Round 1),” Rogers detailed to AA.

“We can’t run any more cars ourselves, we did a deal with Peugeot Sport at the time to buy the five Peugeots.

“We could have run them ourselves, (but) it sounds funny, we didn’t buy them with the plan of running them ourselves.

“We haven’t gone out in the market to try and do anything, but we would sell or lease them to get them on the grid for sure!

“There is an interest out there and they (all the unused cars) are certainly available to someone that wants to run them.”

Earlier this year Zac Husdon ran a GRM prepared Alfa in the non-championship round at Baskerville Raceway, and Rogers said that he was likely to make an appearance at his home track of Morgan Park. Rogers said that although they are at capacity with seven cars, they still remain willing to field a
car for the Queenslander in a one-off round.

“He did a great job when we had that demo round at Baskerville,” Rogers said. “He’s a real talented young guy.

“We initially spoke about running him at Morgan Park. We’re still hoping to put something together to run him at Morgan Park, it’d be great if we could because he’s pretty familiar around there, and I reckon he will put on a pretty good showing.”
