TCR Australia rookie Jay Hanson has split from team Ashley Seward Motorsport and is on the search for a drive to finish the season.

Hanson was announced as joining the team at the end of 2019, but his debut was delayed until Symmons Plains this year due to the impact of COVID-19, which postponed the second season of TCR Australia.

“There has been some frustrations this year, so we are going to have a change of plans for the rest of 2021,” said Hanson.

“We are going to miss Morgan Park to put some new plans in place, and then we should be back for Sandown.

“The time I spent at ASM was a great learning experience, and I really enjoyed having Lee Holdsworth as a team-mate and mentor. Both Lee and Ash have both really taught me a lot.”

Finishing third on debut, but later penalised for contact with Melbourne Performance Centre’s Chaz Mostert, Hanson has had a mixed campaign. Currently 16th in the points, the 17-year-old finished a best of fourth in the opening race at Bathurst was followed by a retirement-related to the turbo in the next.

A similar failure was also experienced by experienced teammate Lee Holdsworth one-lap into the final race where the Alfa Romeo caught fire.

However, Hanson struggled at Sydney Motorsport Park as fellow Alfa Romeo Giulietta Veloce TCR driver Michael Caruso won his first TCR Australia race in the final.

Auto Action understands Hanson is pursuing a drive with a team in TCR Australia, but won’t compete at Morgan Park on June 26-27 where Garry Rogers Motorsport is expected to enter a third Alfa Romeo Giulietta Veloce TCR for Zac Hudson, who will join Caruso and Jordan Cox for his local round.
