PULSARS TO TACKLE THE MOUNTAIN

By Heath McAlpine

The Australian Pulsar Racing Association will race at Mount Panorama in 2022 after it was confirmed the burgeoning class will support the Bathurst 6 Hour.

Formed out of the Pulsar Challenge seven-years ago out of New South Wales for N14 or N15 Australian spec models, the class has expanded into Victoria and aims to extend this to Queensland soon.

The first Bathurst 6 Hour run under the Australian Racing Group banner was held just under two-weeks ago, maintaining its traditional Easter date and also continuing the event’s link to grassroots by hosting the not only the NSW Historic Touring Cars, but the Excel Challenge.

With more than 100 members of APRA it is expected entries will fill fast ahead of the category’s first trip to Bathurst.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for our members to showcase what is the best grassroots single make racing in the country,” said APRA director Damon May.

“All the hard work put in by both parties is now coming to fruition. To now head to the mountain is beyond belief.

“Our thanks go to MRF Tyres and the Australian Racing Group (ARG) for placing faith in us to put on a great show.”

With help from naming rights partner MRF Tyres and local distributor Vivek Ponnusamy, May explained the opportunity would not have occurred.

“We cannot thank Vivek enough, during 2020 we both faced some massive challenges,” May said. “Vivek was always doing what needed to be done to ensure we managed to stay on track, offering our members continued opportunities to do what they love to do most.

“I think Vivek’s passion for supporting Motorsport in Australia is more than evident in his actions.”

Ponnusamy lauded APRA for its growth and was pleased to continue supporting the class.

“It has been a pleasure working with APRA over the past two-years,” said Ponnusamy. “APRA is a fantastic category with a great group of competitors. They regularly have oversubscribed grids and, in some cases, have to book two grid spots to give all competitors an opportunity to race.

“We can’t wait to see similar growth in other states in the coming years. It is fantastic MRF Tyres has been able to provide APRA with this chance.

“Whilst the finer details are yet to be worked out, we can now announce that Pulsars will be at Bathurst in 2022. I can imagine tomorrow there will be a few more in the build process looking at getting a spot on the grid.”

Next year’s Bathurst 6 Hour is again scheduled for Easter on April 14-17.
