It was the second weekend that there were support categories on in Townsville. The Supersprinters were back along with highly entertaining EFS Hyundai Excels, replacing the Top Tops that featured previously.

EFS EXCEL INVITATIONAL

Fresh off one race win and second overall at Morgan Park last weekend, Cam Bartholomew led from lights-out to flag whilst under continued pressure from Cam Wilson.

Right behind them in the timed event which was marred by two safety car periods, were Broc Feeney and Brodie Kostecki who swapped positions a couple of times.

There was a gap back to Riley Beggs who snared fifth off Brett Parrish on the last lap. Then came Angelo Mouzouris from Zak Hudson, Nash Morris and Ian Harvey tenth of the 25 starters.

The first safety car came at the end of lap two when Josh Dremel stopped on-track. The race quickly went back to green conditions but not for long.

There was contact between Parrish and Beggs under brakes into Turn 2 and that fired Parrish over the kerbs and into Will Brown.

Brown had qualified 12th and had picked up five positions on the opening lap. He was unluckily fired off into the concrete wall. Just prior to that Ryan McLeod had pulled off on the main straight with an engine drama.

TOWNSVILLE SUPERSPRINTERS

The smallest engine car of the 34 entered was substantially faster than everyone else over the three sessions undertaken.

Michael von Rappard in a 1.0-litre Suzuki-powered Stohr went progressively quicker as the day progressed, and eventually got down to a 1 minute 18.1937 second best.

Trent Laves (Nissan 200SX) elevated himself to second in the last outing and relegated Chris Ching (Porsche 911) time to third. Then followed Andrew Wilton (Toyota 86) from Ben Littlefield (Nissan 180SX) and Michael Seymour in his RCR SL-R.

Well down the order was Paul Morris who was at the helm of a Toyota 86 this weekend, as too Roland Dane who alternated drives in his Jaguar XJS and Chev Camaro with Peter Altman.
