Just an hour prior to the opening practice session for the second consecutive round at Silverstone the FIA stewards announced that Renaults protest of the Racing Point cars had been upheld and as a result, the team would be fined and docked points.

The Silverstone based team has been fined €200,000 and penalised 7.5 points per car that the team fielded in the Styrian Grand Prix.

In total the team will has been fined €400,000 ($655,772 AUD) and lost a total of 15 constructors’ points. The point deduction drops Racing Point to sixth in the Constructors’ Championship behind the protesting Renault squad.

Renault has lodged no less than three protests at the conclusion of the Styrian, Hungarian and British Grand Prix’s respectively, alleging that Racing Point’s brake ducts had been directly copied from the 2019 Mercedes.

Racing Point, a customer of Mercedes admitted this season that they had taken inspiration from the 2019 Silver Arrows, but insisted what it had done was within the rules.

In the lead up to the first practice at the 70th Anniversary weekend at Silverstone, the stewards delivered their verdict, upholding Renault’s protest.

Racing Point are currently reviewing the findings of the investigation and are yet to decide if they will appeal the decision, in line with Article 15 of the International Sporting Code.
